Boxing It - One Way to Hide His Word in Your Heart

(Bel here) Recently and today as well, shortness of breath is becoming more of an issue for Dad.  Something cool he showed me today was this box he created way back when to help him memorize scripture. He said he has used it for years.  The box is filled with little cards (all hand cut and I assuming not with a fancy scrapbook cutter) each with a bible verse on it.

Psalm 119:9 says "How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word."

Its says in Matthew that the pure in heart will see God (Matthew 5:8).  Thus the purpose and basis behind Dad's box.  MAYBE, I should create a box of my own.  This may be Pinterest worthy! Check it out!

Letter #4 - Reaffirming the Bible as Authority

October 3, 2014

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

I was scheduled to preach this past Sunday. As God would have it, I ended up in the hospital for excessive loss of blood (due to a side effect of chemo treatment).   Later, I was transitioned to an inpatient hospice care facility.

While living in that care facility, I was working on a letter to share a conviction that  relates to the message that I was going to preach last Sunday.  It is the core value #1 of our church, i.e., the Bible as our highest authority.

Letter #3 - Unity in Church

September 26, 2014

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I want to thank you so much for your prayers, and especially as I go through the most difficult times. As I travel through the valley of the shadow of death, your prayers mean so much more to me.

I want to take this opportunity from my hospital bed to share another core value of our church that is dear to my heart: to preserve and foster the unity of our church.  Please forward this to those in our church who may not be on the google group mailing lists.

For example, in our church, you would see right away that there are three different language congregations. We need people who are willing to cross over language groups.

Letter 2 - A Living Church

September 16, 2014

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

Tomorrow, I will be going in for another infusion for chemotherapy.  Thanks again for your prayers.  As mentioned before, I would like to share my thoughts in short letters.

Since the beginning of our church, we have seen that the Lord has been working.  In spite of many limitations (such as not enough space, the transient nature of student ministry, the challenges in our county, etc.), we have seen hundreds becoming His disciples.  Quite a few are serving in different areas of our church.  Quite a few have graduated from seminary.  A few members have become career ministers & missionaries.

Will this continue for the next 50 years?

Letters #1 - Being Intentional

September 9, 2014

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

This past year, I have been touched by your prayers for me & my family. Tomorrow, I will be going through another round of chemotherapy.  Appreciate your support and prayers.

I am scheduled to preach in the English service this month.  Yet, I do not know how my throat and speaking will be affected.  Just in case I do not get to preach, I am sharing my thoughts in short letters.
